Highlights of Fiscal Year 2007
- Improvement in our financial position during this year made it possible to address some long overdue capital improvements. The entry to the Adult Day Health Center was repaved and redesigned to include a circular driveway to minimize safety hazards for our seniors entering and exiting the building. Efforts are being made to obtain funds for a complete roof replacement in the next year.
- GuardiaCare is the only ageny in the state providing professional guardian, conservator, curator and representative payee services in a single agency. During the current fiscal year, GuardiaCare served 355 persons, primarily residing in Jefferson County, at risk of abuse and/or exploitation.
- Under our court-appointed fiduciary responsibilities, the agency managed $14.2 million in client assets, up from $10.9 million just one year before.
- The Adult Day Health Center served 34 seniors, with an average daily attendance increasing from 16 to 24 over the course of the fiscal year. A range of physical and cognitive activities are offered daily. Art therapy sessions were made possible through the cooperation of the Louisville Visual Art Association. Another grant provided music therapy in the spring and the purchase of musical instruments and CDs.
- The Humana Foundation awarded GuardiaCare a $10,000 grant to implement its “Home Safe Home” pilot project to assist seniors returning to their homes following a medical crisis.
- In our cooperative program with Spalding Auerbach School of Occupational Therapy, 22 home safety assessments were conducted to help seniors to remain in their own homes safely and as independently as possible.
- Throughout the year, 15 corporate workshops were held on-site at area companies for the benefit of employees with family caregiving responsibilities.
- The “Staying Alive: How to be an Effective Caregiver” series of workshops were held at varied locations throughout the community for four sessions each. Recognizing how difficult it is for family members often juggling work and family with elder care responsibilities to find time to attend such programs, GuardiaCare will launch Caregiver University On-Line in the next fiscal year.
- Our signature fundraising event, Chocolate Dreams: An Evening of Decadent Bliss, which sold out in its inaugural year in 2006, was relocated to Churchill Downs. The February event is rapidly becoming the premiere chocolate sampling event in the area. Increased attendance and sponsorships helped boost revenues by 55 per cent.
- Our second annual event, the Secrets of Louisville Chefs LIVE Kitchen Theater Gala held in June, also increased revenue over the first year and continued to attract new friends for the agency. GuardiaCare Services gains publicity whenever the two taped shows are broadcast on the CW Network.
