GuardiaCare Services, Inc. started as a parish outreach of St. William Catholic Church in 1969 with a neighborhood assistance program. A primary focus of services was to assist neighbors with money management. The program grew into a representative payee program which prompted the parish to create an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3), nonsectarian agency in 1984. Initially, St. William Center operated from the church facilities and the day care program, begun in 1988, operated in the California Community Center.
In 1999 the agency purchased its current site at 215 West Breckinridge Street and combined all its programming into the new location. Seeking to better identify its services to the community, on. April 8, 2002, St. William Center changed its name to GuardiaCare Services, Inc. The agency currently serves more than 425 persons at risk of abuse and/or exploitation. The Adult Day Center has a current daily capacity of 38 seniors.
GuardiaCare is the only agency in the state providing professional guardian, conservator, curator, and representative payee services in a single agency. The agency continues to grow and make history for the Louisville Metro area.

The Symbolism
On April 8, 2002 St. William Center adopted a new name, new logo, and new look to better reflect the services the agency provides.
The logo -- a guiding hand over a caring heart-- depicts the personal care and protection each client receives, whether that is protecting a client's limited financial resources from exploitation or guarding the health of a frail senior. GuardiaCare's tagline --"Rebuilding Lives, Renewing Spirits" -- speaks to the agency's vision. We take special care in mending broken spirits and stabilizing people's lives with care and concern.
